Love Bus Return Promises Nationwide Transport Revival
A day after President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. announced the much-anticipated return of the Love Bus during his fourth State of the Nation Address, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) revealed plans to launch this iconic public transportation nationwide before the year ends. The Love Bus return has stirred excitement among commuters who remember its heyday.
“Hopefully before the end of the year, we are already starting it as a nationwide program,” Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon shared in a recent social media post. The Love Bus, a symbol of Metro Manila’s public transport in the 1970s and 80s, is set to make a grand comeback.
DOTr Prepares for Love Bus Return
According to Secretary Dizon, the DOTr is actively preparing the groundwork to implement the Love Bus return across various regions in the country. “We will immediately do what the President wants for our fellow commuters. We will study this (Love Bus) in the coming weeks,” he added, emphasizing the department’s commitment to fulfilling the President’s directive.
Iconic Design Unveiled
Alongside the announcement, the DOTr revealed the design of the new Love Bus. The bus proudly displays the “Love Bus” logo alongside the name “Bagong Pilipinas,” representing the Marcos administration’s brand. Both the DOTr and Bagong Pilipinas logos are visible on the bus’s front, signaling a fresh yet nostalgic ride.
Free Rides Highlight Social Commitment
During his address, President Marcos emphasized that the revived Love Bus will offer free rides to passengers. This initiative aims to ease commuting expenses and improve public transport accessibility nationwide.
The Love Bus is historically known as the Philippines’ first air-conditioned bus and was initially a project of then-First Lady Imelda R. Marcos. Its return not only revives a cherished mode of transportation but also symbolizes a commitment to modernizing public transit while honoring cultural heritage.
