Low-Pressure Area and Southwest Monsoon Bring Rains

Low-Pressure Area and Southwest Monsoon Impact Weather

The Low-Pressure Area off La Union’s coast still holds potential to develop into a tropical cyclone, sources said. This low-pressure area is currently positioned 85 kilometers west-northwest of Bacnotan, La Union, as of early Monday morning. Experts noted that if it intensifies into a tropical depression while inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), it will be named “Auring.”

Weather specialists explained that the Low-Pressure Area is moving westward, drifting away from land, and is forecasted to leave the PAR in the coming days. No other weather disturbances are currently being tracked within or near the PAR.

Southwest Monsoon Continues to Deliver Heavy Rains

Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon, known locally as “habagat,” is bringing moderate to heavy rainfall across parts of Luzon and Visayas. The western areas of these regions are experiencing significant precipitation, with rainfall amounts ranging from 50 to 100 millimeters throughout Monday.

Areas such as Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, Palawan, and Antique are expected to encounter these rain levels. On June 10, rainfall will intensify, with heavy to intense rains (100 to 200 millimeters) likely in Occidental Mindoro and Zambales. Moderate to heavy rainfall may continue in Metro Manila and other provinces including Bulacan, Pampanga, Laguna, and Rizal.

Rainfall Outlook Through Wednesday

The wet weather pattern is set to persist through Wednesday. Heavy to intense rains will remain over Occidental Mindoro and Zambales. Other areas such as Marinduque, Camarines Sur, and Albay will also experience moderate to heavy rainfall.

Authorities urge residents, especially those living in mountainous or elevated locations, to remain alert. The combination of heavy rains increases the risk of flooding and landslides, making vigilance critical for safety.
