MANILA, Philippines – A low-pressure area inside the Philippine area of responsibility is expected to approach Luzon soon, meteorological sources said. This low-pressure area will likely influence weather patterns across northern and eastern parts of the country.
Meteorological experts explained two possible paths for the low-pressure area. First, it may come close to Luzon before moving northwestward, away from the country. Alternatively, it might cross over the Luzon landmass directly. Regardless of its track, the low-pressure area will bring rain, especially to Luzon, the Bicol Region, and Eastern Visayas.
Forecast and Rainfall Expectations
The low-pressure area was last tracked about 895 kilometers east of southeastern Luzon. Although it currently has a low chance of developing into a tropical depression, its associated trough could already cause rain showers in Bicol and Eastern Visayas by Tuesday evening.
The country is experiencing a “monsoon break,” with the southwest monsoon or “habagat” prevailing mainly over extreme Northern Luzon. Meteorologists noted that the low-pressure area has a slim chance of bringing heavy rain to this region today. Areas like Batanes and the Babuyan Islands are expected to enjoy fair weather.
Weather Outlook for Metro Manila and Beyond
Meanwhile, Metro Manila and most parts of the Philippines will likely see generally fair weather. However, localized thunderstorms may prompt rain showers, especially in the afternoons and evenings. Residents are advised to stay alert for sudden weather changes caused by these isolated storms.
