Low Pressure Area Forms East of Mindanao
A low pressure area formed east of Mindanao on Thursday, June 5, and its trough is set to bring rains to parts of Visayas and Mindanao within the next 24 hours, sources said. The low pressure area was located 1,255 kilometers east of northeastern Mindanao early Thursday morning.
Although it is less likely to develop into a tropical cyclone, the trough connected to the low pressure area is already influencing weather patterns in several regions. This system is expected to cause cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Eastern Samar, Leyte, Southern Leyte, Dinagat Islands, and Surigao del Norte.
Southwest Monsoon Continues to Affect Luzon and Mindanao
In addition to the low pressure area, the southwest monsoon, locally known as “habagat,” remains active and continues to affect parts of Luzon and Mindanao. The habagat will bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms in areas such as Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Zambales, Bataan, Palawan, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi.
Residents in these areas are advised to stay alert and be prepared for possible flash floods or landslides, especially during periods of moderate to heavy rainfall. Local authorities have urged vigilance as these weather conditions could pose risks to vulnerable communities.
Weather Outlook for Metro Manila and Other Regions
Elsewhere, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated monsoon rain showers or localized thunderstorms are expected over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon. Similar weather patterns are forecasted across the country due to localized thunderstorms.
Experts reminded the public to remain cautious as severe thunderstorms may lead to flash floods or landslides, particularly in areas prone to natural hazards. It is important to monitor weather updates and heed warnings from local officials to ensure safety.
