Low-Pressure Area Brings Widespread Rainfall
A low-pressure area is set to bring rains over most of Visayas and Mindanao this Sunday, officials reported. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) warned that this weather disturbance could develop into a tropical depression later in the day.
As of 3 a.m., the low-pressure area was located approximately 445 kilometers northeast of Surigao del Sur. Community members in affected regions should prepare for wet weather conditions as the system advances.
Southwest Monsoon Adds to Rain Showers
In addition to the low-pressure area, the southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat, is expected to bring isolated rain showers and thunderstorms over Palawan. Local leaders noted that these conditions might cause localized flooding in some areas.
Meanwhile, the rest of the country, including Metro Manila, will experience scattered thunderstorms throughout the day. Residents are advised to stay alert for sudden weather changes.
Flood Advisories Issued for Several Regions
Pagasa has issued a severe flood advisory for the Davao Region due to the heavy rains. Several other areas are under a moderate flood advisory, including Calabarzon, Mimaropa, all of Visayas, Caraga, Northern Mindanao, Zamboanga Peninsula, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, and SOCCKSARGEN.
Local officials are urging communities in these regions to monitor flood warnings and take necessary precautions to ensure safety.
Typhoon Kajiki No Longer Affects Philippines
Meanwhile, Typhoon Kajiki, formerly known as Isang, has moved away from the country. It was last tracked approximately 900 kilometers west of northern Luzon and is no longer expected to influence local weather conditions.
Authorities continue to monitor weather developments closely and will provide updates as needed.
