Low Pressure Area Brings Widespread Rains in Luzon and Visayas
A Low Pressure Area near Catanduanes is causing widespread rains across parts of Luzon and the Visayas on Saturday, June 7. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) warns of possible flooding and landslides, especially in low-lying and mountainous regions.
As of 3 a.m., the Low Pressure Area was located around 240 kilometers east of Virac, Catanduanes, according to sources. This weather disturbance, combined with the prevailing southwest monsoon (habagat), is expected to bring persistent rainfall to several parts of the country.
Areas Affected by the Low Pressure Area
The Low Pressure Area is influencing weather conditions over the Bicol Region, Central and Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Caraga, Davao Region, Aurora, and Quezon. These areas will experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms. Residents are advised to stay vigilant due to the risk of flash floods and landslides caused by moderate to heavy rains.
Meanwhile, Metro Manila, MIMAROPA, the rest of Central Luzon, CALABARZON, and other parts of Visayas and Mindanao will also face cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms brought by the southwest monsoon. Authorities caution the public about potential flooding and landslides in these regions.
Weather Outlook in Ilocos and Other Luzon Regions
In the Ilocos Region, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms are expected due to the southwest monsoon. Although rainfall might be less frequent, severe thunderstorms could still cause localized flash floods or landslides.
The rest of Luzon will generally have fair weather with partly cloudy to cloudy skies and isolated rain showers from localized thunderstorms. Despite this, the public is reminded to be cautious of sudden heavy downpours that may lead to flooding in low-lying areas.
PAGASA continues to monitor the Low Pressure Area and will provide updates as needed. Local disaster risk reduction offices and residents in vulnerable areas are urged to remain alert and prepared.
