Low Pressure Area Entered Philippine Area of Responsibility
A low pressure area entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) early Friday, June 6, and could develop into the first tropical cyclone of 2025 within the next 24 hours, sources said. This system, monitored over the Pacific Ocean, was reported inside PAR by 2 a.m., signaling the start of increased weather activity.
By 3 a.m., the system was located approximately 945 kilometers east of the Visayas. Weather experts described the chance of it intensifying into a tropical depression as moderate, a significant rise from yesterday’s low probability. “Base sa ating latest analysis po, kung kahapon ay mababa pa ‘yung tyansa na ito ay maging isang ganap na bagyo, ngayon ay moderate na po yung tyansa o katamtamang tyansa,” a local weather specialist noted.
Possible Development and Naming
Should the system develop into a tropical depression by the weekend, it will be designated as “Auring,” marking the first named storm of June and of the year 2025. This potential progression has prompted officials to stay alert for changes in weather conditions.
Forecast: Rain Expected Across Several Regions
The low pressure area is forecasted to move closer to the Bicol Region and Eastern Visayas on Friday, approaching land by the weekend. While the exact path may shift, it is certain to bring rain to many areas, including Bicol, Visayas, and the CARAGA Region, according to local meteorologists. “So possible pang mabago ang scenario na nakikita natin for this weather disturbance pero ang sure tayo magpapaulan ito in many areas of Bicol Region, Visayas, and CARAGA Region,” they explained.
As the system nears land, it will strengthen the southwest monsoon or habagat, causing rainfall not only over Luzon but also in western parts of Visayas and Mindanao.
Monsoon Rains Affect Metro Manila and Luzon
Today, the combined effects of the low pressure area’s trough and the southwest monsoon increase the likelihood of rain in Metro Manila, CALABARZON, Bicol Region, and MIMAROPA. Light to moderate rains, occasionally heavy, are expected especially in Oriental and Occidental Mindoro. Residents in these areas are advised to remain vigilant against possible flooding and landslides.
In contrast, Northern and Central Luzon will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated thunderstorms. Weather experts clarified, “May tyansa pa rin po ng mga pulo-pulong pag-ulan at pagkidlat, paglukog dulot po iyan ng habagat at wala namang kinalaman sa low pressure area.”
