Low Pressure Area Forecast: Heavy Rains to Soak Luzon, Visayas

Low Pressure Area Maintains Low Development Chance

The low pressure area (LPA) inside the Philippine area of responsibility remains unlikely to develop into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours, officials reported on Monday morning. This information comes from the latest tropical cyclone formation outlook issued at 10 a.m. by the state weather bureau.

As of 8 a.m., the LPA was positioned approximately 150 kilometers east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar. No other tropical cyclones or LPAs are currently being tracked inside or outside the Philippine area of responsibility, sources said.

Heavy Rainfall Expected Across Luzon and Visayas

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) forecasted that the LPA will bring significant rainfall as it approaches the country. The 11 a.m. rainfall prediction indicates moderate to heavy rains ranging from 50 to 100 millimeters from Monday through Tuesday noon in several provinces.

  • Aurora
  • Quezon
  • Camarines Norte
  • Camarines Sur
  • Catanduanes
  • Albay
  • Sorsogon
  • Northern Samar
  • Eastern Samar
  • Masbate
  • Leyte
  • Southern Leyte

Extended Rainfall Due to Southwest Monsoon

Aside from the LPA, the southwest monsoon, locally known as the habagat, will contribute to sustained moderate to heavy rains in several areas for up to three days this week. From Tuesday noon to Thursday noon, the following provinces are expected to experience significant rainfall:

  • Aurora
  • Rizal
  • Quezon
  • Laguna
  • Camarines Norte
  • Camarines Sur
  • Catanduanes
  • Albay
  • Sorsogon
  • Occidental Mindoro
  • Palawan
  • Antique
  • Negros Occidental

From Wednesday noon to Thursday noon, moderate to heavy rains will persist in:

  • Aurora
  • Rizal
  • Quezon
  • Occidental Mindoro
  • Antique
  • Palawan
  • Negros Occidental

Flood and Landslide Risks Heightened

Authorities warned that flooding could occur in urbanized, low-lying, and river-adjacent areas. Furthermore, landslides remain a threat in highly susceptible mountainous regions. Officials emphasized that rainfall amounts may be higher in elevated areas, and previous heavy rains could worsen the situation in some localities.

Community members are advised to stay alert and monitor updates as weather conditions evolve.
