Low-Pressure Area Shows High Chance of Tropical Depression
Authorities reported that the low-pressure area (LPA) inside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) now holds a high chance of developing into a tropical depression. This weather development is closely monitored by the state weather bureau as it could become the first cyclone named “Kiko” this September.
According to local meteorological officials, the LPA was last detected approximately 1,190 kilometers east-northeast of Extreme Northern Luzon. It is approaching the boundary of the PAR, increasing the likelihood of intensification before it leaves the Philippine zone.
Possible Impact on Philippine Landmass Remains Low
Weather experts explained that despite the expected development into a tropical depression, the system remains far from the Philippine landmass. “It is possible that before it even leaves our area of responsibility, it will develop into a tropical depression,” a weather specialist said. However, they also emphasized that the chance of this cyclone affecting any part of the country directly is low due to its considerable distance.
Southwest Monsoon Causes Current Weather Conditions
Meanwhile, the prevailing weather system influencing the country is the southwest monsoon, locally known as the habagat. Officials reported that the habagat is bringing cloudy skies along with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms across several regions.
Areas Experiencing Showers and Thunderstorms
- Ilocos Region
- Batanes
- Babuyan Islands
- Apayao
- Zambales
- Bataan
- Occidental Mindoro
Regions with Partly Cloudy to Cloudy Skies
The habagat is also expected to cause partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms in these areas:
- Metro Manila
- Central Luzon
- Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon)
- Mimaropa (including Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan)
- Bicol Region
- Western Visayas
Moreover, localized thunderstorms will bring similar weather conditions across the rest of the country. Residents are advised to stay updated and exercise caution during sudden downpours.
