Low-Pressure Area Inside Philippine Area: Tropical Depression Expected
A low-pressure area inside the Philippine area of responsibility is set to develop into a tropical depression by Friday, August 22. Officials reported that this weather system has a high chance of intensifying soon, signaling the ninth cyclone for the country in 2025 if it becomes a full storm.
Once it strengthens into a cyclone, the tropical depression will be locally named Isang. Community members noted that the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) has been closely monitoring its progress.
Current Position and Movement of the Weather System
Weather specialists say the low-pressure area is currently located approximately 150 kilometers east of Baler, Aurora. Sources said it is expected to move westward across Central Luzon later today.
“So it’s possible that we’ll have early development as a tropical depression today,” a weather expert said in Filipino. This development could trigger the immediate raising of wind signals in parts of Northern and Central Luzon.
Officials reported that after crossing the landmass, the system will reemerge into the West Philippine Sea by Friday evening or early Saturday morning.
Expected Impact: Rainfall and Wind Signals
The approaching tropical depression is forecast to bring significant rainfall over a wide area of Luzon. Local leaders noted that residents should prepare for heavy rains and possible flooding in affected regions.
Additionally, the southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat, will continue to deliver rains, especially over the western parts of Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Community members emphasized the importance of vigilance as these weather conditions persist.
Authorities advise the public to stay updated on weather bulletins and take necessary precautions to ensure safety amid the evolving situation.
