LPA and Habagat Continue to Bring Heavy Rains
The low-pressure area (LPA) and the southwest monsoon, locally called the habagat, are expected to persist in bringing rains across the Philippines on Sunday, August 31. Officials reported that these weather systems will cause widespread wet conditions throughout the country.
According to local meteorological sources, the LPA and habagat will maintain cloudy skies with a high chance of rainfall over the Mimaropa and Bicol Regions in Luzon. This includes the provinces of Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan.
Widespread Showers in Visayas and Mindanao
Community members noted that the combined effects of the LPA and the habagat will also result in scattered rains and thunderstorms over the Visayas and Mindanao regions. Residents in these areas should prepare for intermittent wet weather through the day.
LPA Remains Unlikely to Develop Into Cyclone
Weather experts said the LPA, currently situated about 520 kilometers east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar, is unlikely to intensify into a tropical cyclone within the next 24 hours. Despite this, it will still bring cloudy and rainy conditions nationwide.
“Kahit hindi ito magiging tropical cyclone, inaasahan pa rin natin na magdadala ito ng maulap at maulan na panahon,” a local weather specialist said.
Sunshine and Sudden Showers in Luzon
Meanwhile, the remainder of Luzon, including Metro Manila, will experience hot weather in the morning. However, abrupt rains may still occur in the afternoon or evening, officials reported.
Temperatures in Metro Manila are expected to reach up to 32°C on Sunday, so residents are advised to stay hydrated and watch for sudden weather changes.
