Free Rides on LRT-2 Every Wednesday in August
Commuters holding a National ID can enjoy free rides on the Light Rail Transit 2 (LRT-2) every Wednesday throughout August. This initiative aims to encourage more Filipinos to use the National ID as a key to accessing public services.
The free rides will be available on August 13, 20, and 27 during two daily time slots: from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and again from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Passengers must present their National ID—whether physical card, printed paper, or digital copy—to station security personnel to qualify for the Libreng Sakay program.
Supporting National ID Usage Through Public Transit
Officials reported that this free ride program aligns with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s vision to expand the National ID’s role in facilitating access to various government services. By linking the National ID to transportation benefits, the government hopes to increase awareness and adoption of the ID system.
Community members welcomed the offer, noting that it provides relief for daily commuters, especially during peak hours. The program also encourages more people to register for and carry their National ID regularly.
Metro Rail Transit 3 Joins the Initiative
Alongside LRT-2, the Metro Rail Transit 3 (MRT-3) will also provide free rides on the same Wednesdays and time frames. Local leaders highlighted that this coordinated effort between rail transit systems aims to maximize the program’s reach and impact.
Passengers planning to take advantage of the free rides are reminded to bring their valid National ID in any acceptable form to avoid inconvenience at the gates.
