LRT-2 Operations Resume After Technical Issue Fixed
MANILA, Philippines — The Light Rail Transit line 2 (LRT-2) has fully resumed operations before noon on Wednesday following a technical problem. The Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) announced in its 11:30 a.m. advisory that the LRT-2 operations are back to normal after resolving a technical problem at the rectifier substation near Katipunan Station.
“May biyahe na mula RECTO STATION hanggang ANTIPOLO STATION at pabalik,” the LRTA said, assuring commuters of trips running both ways between Recto and Antipolo stations. This marks a return to full service after limited operations earlier in the day.
Free Rides Continue Amid Restored Service
To ease the impact of the earlier disruption, the LRTA confirmed that free rides on the LRT-2 will continue from Wednesday through Thursday. This move aims to support passengers affected by the service interruptions caused by the technical fault.
The limited operations on Wednesday morning forced the LRTA to run trains only from Recto Station to Araneta Center-Cubao Station starting at 6:45 a.m. To help commuters, shuttle services offered free rides between Antipolo, Marikina-Pasig, Santolan, Katipunan, and Anonas stations to Araneta Center-Cubao.
Technical Problem and Response
The issue originated at the rectifier substation near Katipunan Station, which affected power supply and train operations. The LRTA team promptly addressed the technical problem, restoring full functionality and enabling normal train service well before noon.
Local authorities and transit officials emphasized their commitment to maintaining reliable transport services and minimizing inconvenience for daily commuters. Passengers are encouraged to plan their trips accordingly and take advantage of ongoing free rides until Thursday.
