Lt. Gen. Bernard Banac Takes Key PNP Role
MANILA, Philippines — Lt. Gen. Bernard Banac has been appointed as the new deputy chief for administration of the Philippine National Police (PNP). His appointment, effective August 6, 2025, places him as the second highest-ranking official in the PNP hierarchy.
Banac’s new role was confirmed through Special Order No. NHQ-SO-URA-2025-5786. He replaces Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr., who now leads the Area Police Command (APC) Western Mindanao, Banac’s former post.
Career Highlights of Lt. Gen. Bernard Banac
Before his new appointment, Banac served as the PNP spokesperson from 2019 to 2020. His extensive experience includes international assignments, such as his role as a technical adviser for the United Nations Police Arms Embargo Cell in the Ivory Coast between 2005 and 2007.
Following that, Banac also worked as an operations and planning officer for the UN mission in Kosovo from 2008 to 2009. These roles reflect his deep expertise in law enforcement and peacekeeping operations.
Local sources noted that Banac’s leadership in Western Mindanao was marked by efforts to strengthen security in the region. His appointment as deputy chief for administration signals trust in his ability to manage the PNP’s internal affairs efficiently.
