LTO Imposes Suspension Over Illegal Transfer in Samar
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has taken decisive action by imposing a preventive suspension on an employee in Samar linked to the illegal transfer of motor vehicle ownership. This move aims to uphold accountability within the agency and deter corruption.
On Monday, the LTO announced a 90-day preventive suspension against the supervising transportation regulation officer in Catbalogan City. This measure was prompted by administrative charges related to facilitating the illicit transfer of a sedan’s ownership in January.
“Considering that your position affords you the opportunity to exert undue influence or pressure on potential witnesses and tamper with evidence, pending Formal Investigation, you are hereby placed under Preventive Suspension for a period of NINETY (90) DAYS, effective immediately upon receipt hereof,” the suspension order stated.
Charges and Investigation Details
LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor Mendoza II confirmed that the employee faces allegations including Gross Neglect of Duty and Conduct Prejudicial to the Best Interest of the Service if proven guilty. Meanwhile, the complainant has submitted documents that challenge the claims of a fraudulent transaction, adding complexity to the ongoing investigation.
“The case is under investigation and we assure the public that we will not tolerate this illegal activity—if it is true. We will ferret out the truth on this matter,” Mendoza emphasized.
Agency Efforts Against Misconduct Strengthen
This case is among several recent incidents prompting the LTO and the Department of Transportation to intensify crackdowns on erring officials. Past violations include drunk driving and assault, which have led to swift disciplinary actions.
Local leaders noted that the agency aims to restore public trust by ensuring transparency and strict enforcement of regulations. “We will continue to act decisively against any form of misconduct within our ranks,” officials said.
