LTO Targets License Ban After Viral ‘Superman’ Stunt
BACOLOD CITY — The Land Transportation Office Region VI (LTO-6) is set to permanently ban a motorcycle rider from obtaining a driver’s license following a viral “Superman” stunt caught on video. The incident occurred in Don Salvador Benedicto town, Negros Occidental, sparking public outrage over blatant road safety violations.
The viral video showed a Honda Click rider lying flat on the motorcycle seat while speeding along a winding road called Orange Cliff. This reckless act prompted swift action from LTO-6 officials, who launched an immediate investigation.
Investigation Leads to Driver Disqualification
On July 13, the rider was filmed performing the dangerous stunt. LTO-6’s Intelligence and Investigation Unit, led by Shiela Mae Alulod, recommended the rider’s disqualification. Regional director Gaudioso Geduspan II approved the resolution, emphasizing the risk the stunt posed to public safety.
“This act posed a serious risk to public safety and is a blatant violation of safe driving practices,” the resolution declared, highlighting the need for firm penalties against such behavior.
Show-Cause Order and Rider’s Admission
Authorities issued a show-cause order on July 14 to the motorcycle’s registered owner, who confessed to lending the bike to the rider. Meanwhile, the rider admitted to performing the stunt but claimed it was only for a photo opportunity, maintaining he was traveling at a low speed of 24 kilometers per hour. He also expressed regret and promised not to repeat the offense.
Despite the rider’s apology, an LTO database check revealed he does not possess a valid driver’s license. This fact intensified his violation of Section 48 of Republic Act No. 4136, or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code, which defines reckless driving as operating a vehicle without due caution, endangering life or property.
Permanent Ban and Legal Consequences
As a result, LTO-6 placed the rider on an alarm list, barring him permanently from acquiring a driver’s license. Additionally, he faces fines for reckless driving and driving without a valid license, as stipulated under Joint Administrative Order No. 2014-01.
LTO-6 vowed to continue monitoring social media and work closely with local law enforcement to crack down on similar dangerous stunts throughout the region.
“Our priority is to protect the public by enforcing road safety regulations consistently and transparently,” said Geduspan, underscoring the agency’s commitment to road safety.
