LTO Issues Show-Cause Order for Driver Intimidating Traffic Enforcer

Driver Faces Show-Cause Order for Intimidating Traffic Enforcer

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) recently issued a show-cause order to a driver involved in an incident of intimidation against a traffic enforcer. The driver allegedly attempted to intimidate the enforcer by name-dropping a Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) official in Mandaluyong City. This case highlights the LTO’s commitment to upholding traffic discipline and protecting enforcers on duty.

Incident Details and Investigation

According to sources within the agency, the van driver was flagged down after reportedly trying to cut in line near La Salle Green Hills on August 8. The situation escalated when the driver allegedly obstructed other vehicles and confronted the traffic enforcer. Officials reported that during the confrontation, the driver attempted to intimidate the enforcer by referencing an MMDA official’s name to avoid accountability.

Company Liability and Driver Sanctions

The van involved in the incident is registered under a company, which now faces scrutiny. The LTO has summoned the company’s representative alongside the driver to appear before the Intelligence and Investigation Division. The company must explain why it allowed a discourteous individual to operate its vehicle, a move that could lead to liability for the company itself.

Local leaders noted that if the driver holds a valid license, a 90-day suspension is likely to be imposed. However, if the driver lacks a valid license or if it has expired, the consequences could be more severe. Meanwhile, the driver faces charges of obstructing traffic and being an improper person to operate a motor vehicle.

Enforcement and Accountability

“Once we establish the identity of this driver and confirm her license status, appropriate sanctions will follow,” said an LTO official partly in Filipino. This case underscores the agency’s efforts to enforce traffic rules strictly and deter drivers from using influence or intimidation to evade penalties.

Looking Forward

The LTO continues to investigate the incident thoroughly, emphasizing that no individual, regardless of connections, is above the law. Community members expressed support for the traffic enforcer and urged authorities to hold all violators accountable to maintain order on the roads.
