MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has distributed more than 1.7 million license plates nationwide, marking a significant milestone in addressing the long-standing backlog of plates. This achievement highlights the ongoing efforts to clear the distribution delays that have troubled motorists for years.
Transportation officials confirmed that over 1,799,206 license plates have been handed out since February 2025, part of the total 7,244,926 plates still pending distribution. The LTO’s renewed focus on license plates distribution aims to serve vehicle owners promptly and efficiently.
Clearing the License Plates Distribution Backlog
Just a day prior, Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon announced the complete clearance of the motorcycle license plate backlog, a problem that lingered for over a decade. Local authorities noted that this progress stems from a concerted push to resolve plate delays nationwide.
Acting Assistant Secretary and LTO Chief Greg Pua, Jr. emphasized that the remaining undelivered plates have been handed over to regional offices to speed up distribution. “We are now focusing on the distribution of the license plates to their rightful owners in compliance with the directive of the President to expedite the distribution process,” Pua said.
In addition to addressing the backlog, the LTO reported producing more than 18 million license plates in the last two years. These plates covered new vehicle registrations, replacements, and the backlog itself, reflecting a massive step toward modernizing and streamlining the system.
Using the LTO Tracker for Convenience
To enhance transparency and convenience, motorists are encouraged to use the LTO Tracker. This online tool allows users to monitor the status of their driver’s licenses and motor vehicle plates easily.
Pua pointed out that through the LTO Tracker, vehicle owners can also select whether to have their plates or licenses delivered right to their doorstep via accredited courier services or to personally pick them up at the LTO office where their vehicles are registered.
These initiatives demonstrate the agency’s commitment to improving customer service and eliminating delays that have frustrated many vehicle owners over the years.
