LTO Official Fired for Drunk Driving Incident
BAGUIO CITY – A Land Transportation Office official was dismissed following a drunk driving incident on Tuesday, June 10. The LTO official was involved in a vehicular accident with another government official on Legarda Road at approximately 9:10 p.m., sources said. The four-word keyphrase early in this report is “LTO official drunk driving.”
Authorities invited both officials to the police station to discuss the accident. However, the LTO official reportedly displayed arrogance during the investigation. Due to his behavior, police took him to a hospital for an alcohol breath test, which confirmed that he was under the influence.
Mayor Magalong Condemns Behavior
Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong strongly criticized the LTO official drunk driving behavior. “I deplore this kind of arrogant behavior. It goes against the principle of good governance. Government officials should lead by example and this official clearly did not subscribe to that guidepost,” he said.
Mayor Magalong expressed disappointment, especially since the city government is actively seeking solutions to reduce the increasing number of vehicle-related accidents.
Immediate Removal and Legal Action
The LTO official was promptly relieved from his position. Local leaders commended Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon and Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board Regional Director Glenn Dumlao for their swift action in removing the official and initiating an investigation.
The official now faces charges for violating Republic Act 10586, also known as the Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act of 2013. This law strictly prohibits operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs to ensure road safety.
The incident highlights the need for government officials to uphold higher standards of responsibility and accountability, particularly in matters affecting public safety.
