LTO Penalizes 32 Driving Schools for Anomalous Transactions
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has sanctioned 32 driving schools in Central Luzon and Metro Manila for irregularities linked to the issuance of theoretical and practical driving course certificates. These penalties include suspensions lasting up to six months and fines reaching P1 million.
In Central Luzon, LTO regional director Ronnie Montejo reported that 17 driving schools and seven instructors faced sanctions. Additionally, one driving school remains under preventive suspension as investigations continue into alleged violations. Montejo emphasized the importance of maintaining trust and said, “The agency continues to conduct regular audits, inspections, and validation checks to ensure that all accredited driving schools and medical clinics adhere to the highest standards of integrity and public trust.”
Metro Manila Driving Schools Also Penalized
Meanwhile, in Metro Manila, LTO regional director Roque Verzosa III revealed that 15 driving schools were disciplined for similar offenses involving irregular issuance of Theoretical Driving Course (TDC) and Practical Driving Course (PDC) certificates. Alongside these, 17 motor vehicle dealers and importers, plus four medical clinics, were also sanctioned for violating existing rules.
Verzosa stated, “This enforcement action is part of the agency’s continuing efforts to ensure accountability, compliance, and integrity among all its accredited stakeholders—and we will not stop.” He added, “These measures reflect the agency’s commitment to upholding the credibility of licensing and registration processes and protecting the welfare of the motoring public.”
Ongoing Nationwide Actions Against Driving Schools
Just last week, authorities issued show cause orders to 205 driving schools nationwide. These orders address offenses such as issuing TDC and PDC certificates despite clients not completing the required training hours or missing the entire course.
The LTO’s persistent crackdown aims to improve the quality and legitimacy of driver education. Such efforts are crucial in ensuring that graduates have genuinely met the standards necessary for safe driving.
