LTO Revokes License After Commonwealth Avenue Jeepney Incident
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has revoked the license of the driver involved in the wayward jeepney incident on Commonwealth Avenue last April 13. Authorities confirmed that the driver’s reckless behavior caused the tragic accident, which left two dead and 16 others injured.
The jeepney collided with the rear left side of a transport mini bus near Kasunduan Street before veering off course. It then struck several vehicles, resulting in the casualties and multiple injuries. This incident highlights the dangers of reckless driving on busy city roads.
Investigation Reveals Reckless Driving on Commonwealth Avenue
Following a thorough investigation, the LTO found the jeepney driver guilty of reckless driving. They imposed the maximum fine of P2,000 and permanently revoked his driving license. Officials explained that the driver not only sped but also drove outside the designated lane for public utility vehicles, violating traffic rules on Commonwealth Avenue.
“The jeepney driver clearly violated the rule of reckless driving, not only for travelling fast but also for travelling outside the designated lane for public utility vehicles along Commonwealth Avenue,” the LTO said in a statement.
Moreover, the driver failed to reduce speed while approaching the downhill section of the road, which contributed to the crash. These factors deemed him unfit to operate any motor vehicle.
Legal Actions and Community Impact
The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) identified the driver as 37-year-old Chito Tabilog. He was arrested for reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicides, physical injuries, and property damage. Local leaders and law enforcement continue to stress the importance of road safety to prevent similar tragedies.
This incident serves as a somber reminder of the consequences of careless driving and the critical role of traffic enforcement agencies in protecting commuters and pedestrians alike.
