LTO Summons Mixer Truck Owner After Dangerous Driving Incident
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has summoned the driver and registered owner of a mixer truck involved in a crash that struck a cafeteria in Bataan. The LTO issued a show cause order to both parties, requiring them to explain why they should not face penalties for dangerous driving and for being deemed improper persons to operate a motor vehicle.
“We already issued a show cause order against both the driver and the owner of the truck to ask them to explain why they should not be sanctioned, especially on the aspect of always ensuring the roadworthiness of the motor vehicle,” LTO chief Vigor Mendoza II stated.
Temporary Restrictions Placed on Vehicle
Officials reported that the mixer truck has been placed under temporary restrictions, preventing any transactions involving the vehicle while the investigation remains active. This step aims to ensure that the vehicle is not used until authorities determine its condition and the responsibility of those involved.
Mendoza emphasized the significance of regular surprise and random inspections on trucks. “The incident highlighted the importance of our regular surprise and random inspections of trucks, due to cases of road crashes involving this type of vehicle. But we cannot cover all of them, and this investigation should serve as a warning of the consequences of the owners failing to ensure the roadworthiness of their motor vehicles,” he added.
Details of the Accident
The accident took place on August 7 in Barangay Bangal, Dinalupihan Town, Bataan. Initial investigations revealed that three individuals sustained injuries, including two customers inside the cafeteria and the driver of the mixer truck.
Community members noted the seriousness of the incident and the need for stricter enforcement of vehicle safety standards to avoid similar accidents in the future.
Ensuring Road Safety
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, focusing on whether the truck was properly maintained and if the driver followed safety protocols. The LTO’s move to summon the truck’s owner and driver underscores the agency’s commitment to holding vehicle operators accountable.
