Driver Faces LTO Summons for Road Rage and Traffic Violations
MANILA, Philippines – The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has summoned an SUV driver involved in a disturbing road rage incident. The driver was caught on video making a dirty finger gesture while committing multiple traffic violations. This latest case highlights the ongoing challenges of enforcing discipline and respect among motorists on the road.
Viral Video Shows Dangerous Driving and Rude Gesture
According to officials, the SUV driver in Quezon City was seen driving against the flow of traffic on a solid double yellow line. The footage captured the driver flashing a dirty finger at another motorist who seemed to have blocked his path. Sources reported that the driver even threatened to exit the vehicle to confront the other driver.
LTO Investigation Reveals Expired Vehicle Registration
The LTO has confirmed that the vehicle involved was last registered in February 2022. However, the registration has since expired, violating mandatory registration laws. While the registered owner has been identified, authorities are still verifying whether the owner was the actual driver during the incident.
Show-Cause Order Issued to Registered Owner
The agency issued a show-cause order (SCO) requiring the registered owner to appear before the LTO Intelligence and Investigation Division. The owner must explain why they should not be held accountable for several offenses, including reckless driving, disregarding traffic signs, obstructing traffic, and operating a vehicle with expired registration. Moreover, the owner is questioned on their suitability to operate a motor vehicle.
License Suspension and Past Incidents
LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor Mendoza II stated that once the investigation confirms the driver’s identity, the individual’s license will be suspended for 90 days. Community members recalled a similar incident where another SUV driver was penalized for the same unruly behavior. That driver was also summoned by the LTO, and their license was suspended accordingly.
Driving Discipline and Public Safety
The LTO continues to emphasize the importance of responsible driving and adherence to traffic laws to ensure public safety on the roads. Officials encourage motorists to maintain respect and patience, especially in congested areas, to prevent road rage and dangerous confrontations.
