LTO Summons Van Owner and Driver in Tagaytay Crash
MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has summoned the owner and driver of the van involved in a fatal road crash in Tagaytay City. This tragic accident resulted in the deaths of three individuals, including a pregnant woman.
LTO Chief Vigor D. Mendoza II announced on Thursday that the show cause order issued to the Nissan Grand Livina’s owner is part of the ongoing investigation. The owner must explain why they allowed the vehicle to be driven by a reckless and unqualified individual.
“We are also coordinating with local police to secure vital evidence, including official reports that the driver was intoxicated at the time of the crash,” Mendoza said.
“Tatlo ang namatay dito, at may kasama pang buntis. Malaki ang pananagutan ng may ari ng sasakyan at yung nagmamaneho nito lalo pa na may lumalabas sa report na lasing ang driver nung van,” he added. (Three people died, including a pregnant woman. The owner and driver carry significant responsibility, especially since reports show the van driver was drunk.)
Details of the Fatal Road Crash in Tagaytay City
According to reports received by LTO Region 4A, the accident took place on Tuesday along the bypass road in Barangay Zambal, Tagaytay City. The van collided head-on with a sedan traveling from the opposite direction.
All occupants of the sedan, including the driver, died at the scene. Meanwhile, the van’s driver and four passengers, aged 17 to 19, sustained injuries. Sources indicate they were under the influence of alcohol during the incident.
The van driver now faces charges of reckless imprudence resulting in damage to property and multiple homicides.
LTO’s Administrative Actions and Ongoing Investigation
LTO Region 4A Director Elmer Decena stated the vehicle’s registered owner has five days to respond to the show cause order. The owner must justify why they should not be held administratively liable for permitting an unqualified driver to operate the van.
Failure to reply could lead to the suspension or cancellation of the vehicle’s registration. The driver will also have to explain why his license should not be revoked.
Decena emphasized that the LTO’s administrative probe is separate from any criminal investigations the police may conduct.
Local authorities confirmed that the van’s driver, France, faces charges for reckless imprudence leading to multiple deaths and property damage.
