LTO Suspends Driver’s License for Reckless Driving
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has suspended a driver’s license for 90 days following a reckless driving incident along Tirona Highway in Cavite. The driver, identified as Arrise Jannah Barrera, attempted to run over a traffic enforcer, officials reported.
This alarming event unfolded when the enforcer flagged down Barrera in connection with an alleged hit-and-run case. According to sources, Barrera was uncooperative during the questioning, which escalated the situation.
Driver Tried to Run Over Enforcer
Local authorities revealed that Barrera accelerated her vehicle towards the enforcer, forcing him to jump onto the car’s hood to avoid injury. Community members noted that the enforcer clung tightly to the hood while the vehicle was still moving. The entire incident was captured on video, providing clear evidence of the reckless driving behavior.
The driver continued driving until she reached her residence, where the enforcer remained on the hood throughout the journey, officials added.
Show-Cause Orders Issued
Following the incident, the LTO issued show-cause orders to both Barrera and the vehicle’s registered owner, John Eric Estrada. They are required to appear before the LTO’s Intelligence and Investigation Division to explain their actions.
They must clarify why Barrera should not be held liable for reckless driving and for violating the driver’s duty in case of an incident. Additionally, Barrera must provide valid reasons why her driver’s license should not be revoked or further suspended.
LTO’s Firm Stance on Traffic Violations
The LTO’s decision to suspend the license reflects its strict enforcement of traffic laws to ensure public safety. Officials emphasized that such dangerous acts will not be tolerated, especially when they put enforcers and other road users at risk.
Community members expressed relief over the swift action taken against reckless driving, hoping it will serve as a deterrent to others.
