LTO Suspends Driver’s License Following Deadly Van Crash
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has suspended the driver’s license of the passenger van driver involved in a tragic accident in Tacloban City. The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, June 10, resulted in two fatalities and left nine others injured. The LTO acted swiftly by imposing a 90-day license suspension on the driver, who reportedly fled the scene after crashing into a lamp post.
Authorities have now ordered the driver to show cause within 10 days to explain why his license should not be revoked due to reckless driving. “You are hereby ordered to show cause in writing, within 10 days from your receipt of this order, why your driver’s license should not be cancelled, or revoked, and/or why appropriate fines and penalties should not be imposed upon you, for your vicarious liability arising from the acts,” the show-cause order from LTO-8 Regional Director Ledwino Macariola stated.

Initial investigations revealed that the passenger van was reportedly speeding toward the Tacloban DZR Airport in Barangay 88 when the driver lost control. The vehicle then collided with a street solar light pole, causing the devastating accident.
In response, LTFRB-8 Regional Director Gualberto Gualberto announced plans to issue a preventive suspension against the transport company operating the route. This measure aims to ensure compliance with safety regulations and prevent similar incidents in the future.
