LTO Suspends Driver’s License After Viral Unsafe Driving Video
MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has suspended the driver’s license of a social media personality following a viral video showing unsafe driving behavior. This action highlights the LTO’s commitment to road safety and responsible driving.
Acting Assistant Secretary and LTO chief Greg Pua emphasized that the video featuring social media personality Cherry White “could lead to road accidents that may endanger not only her life but also of other users.” This clear concern prompted the immediate suspension of her driver’s license for 90 days.
Concerns Over Unsafe Driving Practices
According to officials, Cherry White, who commands a large social media following, was captured in the video seated casually with one leg raised on the driver’s seat, displaying a posture that suggested disengagement from proper vehicle operation. “The information we received was that this personality has a strong following on social media, and the video showing her unsafe driving practice is dangerous since it could be misinterpreted that it is okay to do that,” Pua stated.
The LTO has initiated an investigation starting with the issuance of a show cause order requiring Cherry White to explain her actions. The order calls on her to justify why she should not be held liable for being an Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle under Section 27 (a) of R.A. 4136, in connection with reckless driving allegations.
Show Cause Order and Next Steps
Cherry White has been instructed to appear at the LTO Central Office in Quezon City and to surrender her driver’s license before the scheduled hearing. This procedure marks the formal start of her license suspension period. Meanwhile, the vehicle used in the viral video has been placed under alarm as the investigation continues.
These measures reflect the LTO’s firm stance on discouraging unsafe driving habits, especially when public figures influence many viewers. “We are now investigating this incident, and it starts with the issuance of a show cause order against her,” Pua added.
