LTO Suspends License of Content Creator for Reckless Driving
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has suspended the license of a content creator caught using his cellphone while driving a Porsche sports car on a highway. This incident highlights the ongoing challenges of ensuring road safety amid the rise of social media-driven distractions.
LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II confirmed that the driver was recording content for social media at the time. Mendoza emphasized that this behavior is a clear violation of traffic laws and puts both the driver and the public at risk.
“We already suspended the driver’s license of the identified driver for 90 days pending the result of the investigation,” Mendoza said.
Multiple Violations Cited in Show Cause Order
According to a show cause order issued by the LTO Intelligence and Investigation Division, the driver faces charges for reckless driving, violating the Anti-Distracted Driving Act (Section 4 of R.A. No. 10913), and being an Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle (Section 27 (a) of R.A. No. 4136). Of these, the last violation carries the harshest penalty, which can include revocation of the driver’s license.
Both the driver and the vehicle’s registered owner have been summoned to the LTO Central Office. They must explain why they should not be held administratively liable for the infractions.
Vehicle Alarmed, License Suspension Enforced
In addition to the license suspension, the Porsche sports car has been placed under alarm. Authorities stressed that regardless of the vehicle type, all drivers must obey traffic laws responsibly.
“If the driver is indeed a content creator, then there is this responsibility for him to set a good example to his followers,” Mendoza added.
This case serves as a reminder of the dangers of distracted driving, especially when social media content creation takes priority over safety.
