LTO Suspends License Over Dangerous Motorcycle Stunts

Motorcycle License Suspended for Dangerous Stunts

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has taken swift action by suspending the driver’s license of a motorcycle rider caught performing dangerous stunts on a public road. This preventive suspension lasted for 90 days, following the issuance of a show cause order (SCO) to both the rider and the motorcycle’s registered owner, officials reported.

LTO chief Vigor Mendoza II emphasized the severity of the situation, noting that the viral video showing the rider standing and dancing on a large motorcycle without holding the handlebars posed a significant risk to public safety. “No matter which angle you look at it, what this rider did was really dangerous, especially since he did it on a public road that could cause an accident and endanger the lives of road users,” Mendoza said in a recent statement.

Show Cause Order Issued to Owner and Rider

Following the viral video, the LTO issued a show cause order to the motorcycle’s registered owner, a woman based in Manila. She was required to submit a written explanation detailing why she should not face penalties for the incident. Moreover, she was asked to assist authorities in identifying the rider for proper legal action, sources said.

The LTO also placed the motorcycle under an alarm status. This measure prevents any transactions involving the vehicle while the investigation is ongoing and compels the registered owner to appear at the LTO office. “Failure to appear and submit the written comment/explanation as required shall be construed by this Office as a waiver of your rights to be heard, and the case shall be decided based on the evidence at hand,” the order stated.

Unidentified Rider Faces Reckless Driving Charges

The rider, who remains unidentified, now faces charges of reckless driving and being an improper person to operate a motor vehicle, community members said. Authorities continue efforts to locate and apprehend the individual responsible for the dangerous stunt.

The LTO’s decisive response underscores its commitment to road safety and the strict enforcement of traffic laws to protect all road users from harm.
