LTO Suspends Licenses for Sports Cars Racing in Tagaytay
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has taken swift action by suspending the driver’s licenses of six drivers caught racing their sports cars on a public road in Tagaytay City. The viral video showing the reckless behavior prompted authorities to enforce a 90-day suspension for these drivers.
Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon emphasized that the LTO and the Department of Transportation (DOTr) will not tolerate dangerous driving that puts innocent road users—commuters and pedestrians alike—at risk. “President Bongbong Marcos has insisted that our roads must be safe for all,” Dizon said, stressing the commitment to uphold traffic rules and public safety.
Show Cause Orders Issued to Registered Owners
LTO acting chief Atty. Greg Pua revealed that show cause orders (SCOs) have been sent to the registered owners of the six sports cars involved. The vehicles include two Mazda MX-5s, a Ford Mustang, a Nissan Z, a Chevrolet Camaro, and a BMW M4. These orders require owners to explain their liability for reckless driving and to clarify if they were the ones driving during the incident.
“We are identifying the drivers from the video, whether they are the owners or other individuals,” Pua explained. He stressed that public roads are meant for safe mobility, not for irresponsible racing or dangerous stunts.
The SCOs, signed by LTO Intelligence and Investigation Chief Renante Melitante, also demand the owners to present registration papers and other relevant documents for verification. This is part of a thorough review to hold the proper parties accountable.
LTO’s Warning to All Road Users
Acting Chief Pua issued a strong message to all drivers: “Let this serve as a warning that reckless behavior will not be tolerated, whether you drive a sports car, motorcycle, or tricycle. Let’s all behave responsibly on the road every day to avoid conflicts with the LTO.”
The LTO’s firm stance reflects a broader government initiative to enhance road safety and ensure that public spaces are protected from hazardous driving practices.
