LTO Suspends Driver’s License After Swamp Incident
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has suspended the driver’s license of an official from its Zamboanga Peninsula regional office following a reckless driving incident that led to a vehicle plunging into a swamp in Zamboanga Sibugay. The agency acted swiftly after the video of the mishap went viral, raising public concern over road safety.
According to sources, the LTO official was operating a pick-up truck when the incident occurred in Purok 4, Gandiangan, Imelda town last Thursday. Fortunately, neither the driver nor the three passengers sustained injuries during the accident.
Show Cause Order Issued for Reckless Driving
The LTO has issued a show cause order to the unnamed official, citing allegations of reckless driving and deeming him an improper person to operate a motor vehicle. Local authorities confirmed the move as part of the agency’s commitment to uphold road safety and accountability among its personnel.
“Based on the initial investigation, the LTO official was driving a pick-up truck from Pagadian City to Zamboanga City when he suddenly sped off. This resulted in the car plunging into a swamp and the video of it went viral,” officials reported.
Investigation on Possible Intoxication Underway
It remains unclear whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. The LTO Intelligence and Investigation Division, led by Renante Melitante, is actively examining this aspect as part of their ongoing inquiry.
Community members expressed concern over the reckless behavior displayed by a public official, emphasizing the importance of responsible driving. The LTO has reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on such violations, especially by those entrusted with public service.
LTO’s Commitment to Road Safety and Accountability
This incident highlights the challenges faced in enforcing road safety regulations and the critical role of the LTO in maintaining discipline among drivers, including its own officials. The agency’s prompt action serves as a reminder that no individual is above the law when it comes to public safety on the roads.
The investigation continues as authorities gather more information to determine appropriate sanctions and prevent similar incidents in the future.
