LTO Urges Vehicle Registration Renewal Amid Crackdown
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has strongly urged motorists to renew their expired vehicle registration without delay. This call comes amid intensified operations that resulted in the apprehension of 18,934 unregistered motor vehicles in May alone. The LTO emphasizes that timely vehicle registration is crucial to avoid severe penalties.
Assistant Secretary Vigor D. Mendoza II, LTO chief, warned motorists of a P10,000 fine for driving unregistered vehicles. “The only way to avoid such hefty penalty is to renew the motor vehicle registration in the soonest possible time,” Mendoza said. He added that the agency’s campaign will continue vigorously until all vehicle owners comply with their registration obligations.
Enforcement Campaign Targets Unregistered Vehicles
According to data from the LTO, motorcycles and tricycles made up the majority of apprehended vehicles, with 12,206 and 3,105 respectively. Vans and private cars accounted for over 2,800 combined, while passenger jeepneys, buses, and trucks made up the remainder. This shows a broad enforcement effort across various vehicle types.
Region 4A, covering Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon provinces, led the crackdown with 9,906 apprehensions. This was followed by Region 4B and Region 2. The LTO has coordinated these efforts with the Philippine National Police (PNP) and other law enforcement agencies to ensure road safety compliance.

Mendoza stressed that vehicle registration is not just a legal obligation but a critical safety responsibility. “This is not only part of your obligation as motor vehicle owners, it is part of your responsibility not only for your safety but also of your family,” he said.
