LTO Waives Fines for Flood-Hit Motorists Amid Crisis

LTO Waives Fines for Flood-Hit Motorists to Ease Burden

MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has announced it will waive fines for traffic violations, late vehicle registration, and driver’s license renewal for motorists affected by recent flooding and severe weather conditions. This move aims to assist drivers in calamity-stricken areas as they recover from the adverse effects of tropical cyclones and the southwest monsoon.

According to a memorandum signed by LTO chief Greg Pua, the 15-day period for settling traffic violations recorded between July 21 and July 25 in the affected zones has been extended. This extension allows motorists more time to comply without incurring penalties, helping those who faced difficulties due to the floods.

Extended Deadlines for Vehicle Registration and Renewals

The memorandum states that the deadline for settling fines related to these violations is now August 8, 2025. Likewise, the validity of vehicle registrations and driver’s license renewals set to expire from July 21 to 25 has been extended to the same date. This adjustment ensures affected motorists have sufficient time to complete their transactions without penalty.

Chief Pua also emphasized that penalties will be waived for vehicles, including motorcycles, bought between July 21 and 25 that were not registered within the usual timeframe. The counting of days for late registration penalties will only start on August 8, giving owners leeway during this challenging period.

Relief Amid Widespread Impact from Tropical Cyclones

Metro Manila and nearby provinces recently experienced the brunt of Tropical Cyclones Crising, Dante, Emong, and the southwest monsoon. These weather disturbances affected nearly 3.84 million people, leading to severe flooding and transportation challenges. In Dagupan City, Pangasinan, residents resorted to boats, tractors, and carts to navigate flooded streets where water levels reached 1.36 meters.

Local leaders and sources noted that the LTO’s decision to ease penalties and extend deadlines provides much-needed relief for motorists struggling amid these calamities. This support helps ensure that affected individuals can focus on recovery without added financial strain from traffic and registration fines.
