Filipinos Call on Vice President to Prioritize National Issues
A recent survey reveals that the majority of Filipinos want Vice President Sara Duterte to focus on addressing the country’s pressing needs. The Social Weather Stations (SWS) conducted the survey from May 2 to 6, highlighting public opinion on the Vice President’s priorities amid ongoing challenges.
According to sources familiar with the matter, 93 percent of Filipinos agree that she should work closely with other leaders to tackle the nation’s urgent concerns. Within this figure, 74 percent strongly believe she “definitely should” prioritize this, while 19 percent say she “probably should.” This clear mandate underscores the public’s expectation for collaborative efforts in governance.
Public Wants Vice President to Face Allegations Directly
The same survey also indicates that 88 percent of respondents want Vice President Duterte to address the impeachment allegations and corruption charges filed against her. Of these, 68 percent say she definitely should confront the issues, and 20 percent think she probably should. Only a small minority, about 7 percent, feel she should avoid this or remain uncertain.
Balancing Policy Pursuits and Political Conduct
While 61 percent of those surveyed believe the Vice President should continue pursuing her platform and policies, there is also a strong call for restraint in the political arena. More than half of the participants—59 percent—urge her to keep fulfilling her duties without politicizing her office. Additionally, 50 percent recommend that she refrain from publicly criticizing the government and its initiatives, aiming for a more constructive political discourse.
Survey Methodology and Demographics
The face-to-face interviews involved 1,800 registered voters nationwide. Respondents were selected from Metro Manila (300), Balance Luzon (900), the Visayas (300), and Mindanao (300). The national margin of error stands at ±2.31 percent, reflecting a reliable snapshot of public sentiment.
These findings indicate a strong desire among Filipinos for the Vice President to prioritize national issues and transparency. The public clearly expects her to engage constructively with both the government and the allegations she faces, demonstrating accountability while advancing her policy goals.
