Makati City Distributes Free School Supplies to Students

Makati City Mayor Abby Binay led the early distribution of free school supplies to public school students, alongside laptops for teachers and staff. This initiative took place at Nemesio I. Yabut Elementary School and reflects the city’s commitment to education. The free school supplies include uniforms, notebooks, pens, pencils, pad papers, socks, shoes, bags, and jackets.

Joining Mayor Binay was her husband, Makati 2nd District Representative Luis Campos. They personally handed over items like Go Bags and hard hats to students. These emergency kits will remain in classrooms to be used during disasters, ensuring student safety.

Enhancing Teaching with Laptops and Support

Meanwhile, teachers and teaching-related personnel received laptops to improve their teaching methods and administrative tasks. A total of 1,410 laptops are being distributed across Makati’s public schools. Mayor Binay emphasized that supporting educators is a key part of the city’s education strategy.

“Our teachers deserve the tools to help them adapt to modern teaching methods and technology. These laptops will allow them to plan lessons better, access online resources, and manage their workloads more efficiently,” the mayor said.

The Project FREE (Free Relevant and Excellent Education) program guarantees that all public school students in Makati receive free school supplies and uniforms. This ensures students begin the school year fully prepared without financial strain on their families.

Expanding Student Benefits Every School Year

Mayor Binay also shared that benefits have been expanded to cover elementary, junior high, and senior high students. These are given at the start of each school year to ease parents’ expenses and boost student confidence.

“Wala na silang rason para hindi makapasok ang mga anak nila. Noong una, sinasabi—baon? Meron na kaming libreng pagkain sa school. May Project FEED (Food for Excellent Education and Development) kami. Tapos wala na ring problema sa uniporme. Dati pinapatahi ‘yong uniform, ngayon libre na. Sinasabi, walang sapatos? Libre na rin ang sapatos. So, there is no reason for parents na sabihing nag-drop out o hindi nag-aral ang anak nila,” she explained.

This holistic approach supports inclusive, quality education by ensuring every child has the necessary tools to succeed.

Strengthening Disaster Preparedness in Schools

In addition to academic support, Makati City is boosting school disaster preparedness. The city is distributing 13,698 Emergency Go Bags, 12,179 adult hard hats, and 5,650 small hard hats for students. Each Go Bag contains essentials like water, food bars, emergency blankets, hand crank flashlights, whistles, and medical supplies.

“We are not just preparing our students academically, but also making sure they are ready and safe when disaster strikes. Safety is an essential part of every school environment,” Mayor Binay said.

The distribution effort spans several public schools to ensure all beneficiaries receive their supplies before classes start. This comprehensive support aims to prepare students and teachers for a successful and safe school year.
