Makati City Opens First Animal Care Facility

Makati City Opens First Animal Care Facility to Boost Welfare

MANILA, Philippines — Makati City proudly launched the first animal care facility in the Philippines, reinforcing its dedication to animal welfare and fostering a pet-friendly environment. This milestone marks a significant step in local efforts to improve the lives of animals and their owners.

Makati City Mayor Abby Binay led the grand opening on June 24, 2025, at the new facility located on Sultana St., Barangay Olympia. The animal care facility aims to raise awareness on responsible pet ownership and provide essential services to the community.

“We are honored to be the first local government unit to open this facility, which is dedicated to the care and protection of animals,” said Binay. “With this facility, we hope to promote greater awareness for animal welfare and nurture a culture of care, love, and concern in our homes and communities.”

Comprehensive Services for Pets and Owners

The newly built center houses a consultation room, two surgery rooms, two recovery rooms, and food preparation areas. Additionally, it features ventilated cages across two floors to comfortably accommodate pets.

Services include free consultations every Monday, free initial vaccinations and deworming, with follow-up doses available at a minimal fee of ₱30. Microchipping is offered from Tuesday to Friday, while spaying and castration procedures are available by appointment.

Moreover, the facility serves as the headquarters for the city’s veterinary services department, managing certifications such as meat handler’s licenses, veterinary inspection certificates, and health certificates for pet travel, local officials noted.

Promoting Responsible Pet Ownership in Makati

Mayor Binay emphasized the importance of responsible pet ownership and humane treatment. She announced that stray animals in Makati will be made available for adoption to help reduce homelessness among pets.

“We want to encourage Makatizens to be responsible pet owners and treat them humanely,” she said. “With the services we offer, there should be no excuse for neglecting pets. Responsible ownership also means understanding one’s duties within the community.”

The city maintains partnerships with organizations like the Animal Kingdom Foundation and Biyaya Animal Care Clinic to support these welfare initiatives.

As Mayor Binay’s term ends this June, she will be succeeded by her sister, outgoing Senator Nancy Binay, following the recent elections. The new leadership is expected to continue advancing Makati’s commitment to animal welfare.
