Makati City Launches New Makatizen Card Center
The Makati City government has opened a new Makatizen Card Center to streamline social and medical service distribution for Makatizens. This center, located on the ground floor of the City Hall Main Building, provides several Makatizen Card services including help with online applications, virtual card generation, card replacements, inquiries, and card releasing.
Since its launch in 2017, the Makatizen Card has served as a valid government-issued ID that consolidates all city health and social benefits for residents and city employees. It also supports access to the city’s cashless ecosystem, making transactions more convenient.
Enhanced Benefits and Convenience for Residents
The new Makatizen Card Center fully integrates benefits from the Blu Card and PWD Card programs. Senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWD) can now use their virtual Makatizen Card to enjoy free movie screenings at partner cinemas around the city. Additionally, seniors enrolled in the Blu Card program receive their cash gifts through the GCash app linked to their Makatizen Card.
“For the convenience of city residents and other qualified individuals, we have established a dedicated facility at City Hall for all transactions related to the Makatizen Card. It will serve as a one-stop shop catering to specific needs of existing cardholders and new applicants,” a local official said. This new center aims to reduce multiple visits to City Hall by addressing all card-related concerns in one location.
Focus on Accessibility and Efficiency
The center is designed to ease the application process, especially for senior citizens and PWDs, by providing comprehensive assistance for all Makatizen Card needs. The unified card concept began when city leaders noticed the inconvenience caused by multiple cards for various benefits. They aimed to consolidate all functions into a single physical and virtual card.
Between January and May 2025, the city recorded 16,977 Makatizen Card applications, with 9,092 cards issued within that period. For 2024, the city’s Information and Communication Technology Office generated 53,305 virtual Makatizen Cards.
Innovative Public-Private Partnership
This initiative marks Makati’s first digital public-private partnership (PPP), launched in collaboration with major telecommunications and payment service providers. This partnership supports the card’s cashless capabilities and expands access to digital services for residents.
The new Makatizen Card Center represents a significant step forward in enhancing public service delivery by unifying benefits and simplifying access for all Makatizens.
