Makati Expands Free Meds for Senior Citizens and PWDs

Makati City Boosts Healthcare for Senior Citizens and PWDs

Makati Mayor Abby Binay announced a significant expansion in the city’s healthcare program, now offering full doses of free multivitamins and maintenance medications to more than 30,000 senior citizens aged 60 to 69, along with registered persons with disabilities (PWDs). This move marks a vital step in improving accessible care for vulnerable residents.

According to local officials, this new initiative directly benefits 15,149 senior citizens in the 60-69 age group and 15,748 registered PWDs. Previously, only seniors aged 70 and above received full medication supplies, while others got half-month doses.

Access to Free Medications Widens

The expanded program allows these new beneficiaries to receive essential medications free of charge. They can avail of these through Planet Drugstores located in health centers, Ospital ng Makati, and the Makati Life Medical Center. The keyphrase “free meds for senior citizens” highlights this crucial service enhancement that supports the city’s aging population and PWD community.

Mayor Binay expressed that this enhancement reflects her administration’s promise to ensure accessible health services for Makati’s most vulnerable groups. “The enhanced program represents a major step forward in my administration’s commitment to provide accessible healthcare for its most vulnerable residents,” she stated.

Longstanding Healthcare Achievements Support Expansion

Over her nine-year term, the city’s health system has delivered nearly five million free healthcare interactions to close to two million patients. The foundation of this success lies in Makati’s robust healthcare infrastructure, including Ospital ng Makati’s (OsMak) impressive 92-percent recovery rate.

Special programs have also played a vital role. Since 2017, the Unli Dialysis program has provided life-saving kidney treatments to 32,951 patients, while the subsidized Ambulatory Chemotherapy Program has served 11,364 qualified cancer patients.

Strengthening Community Health Support

These programs emphasize Makati’s dedication to comprehensive healthcare services. The recent expansion of free medication access for senior citizens and PWDs builds on this commitment, ensuring that more individuals can manage their health effectively without financial strain.

Local leaders noted that extending full medication supplies to those aged 60-69 and PWDs helps address gaps previously faced by these groups, enhancing their quality of life and medical adherence.
