Arrest of Motorcycle-Riding Robber in Bel-Air
A motorcycle-riding robber was apprehended by Makati City police on Wednesday, May 28, following a robbery incident involving a 61-year-old American victim in Barangay Bel-Air. The arrest highlights the authorities’ swift response to street crimes in the area.
The suspect, known as Celso and residing in Quiapo, is reportedly a repeat offender. Sources familiar with the matter reveal that he has prior arrests related to illegal firearms possession, drug offenses, and illegal gambling.
According to reports, Celso, along with two accomplices named Tutoy and Pipoy—both residents of Manila—targeted the American while he was walking near Polaris Street close to Anza Street on Tuesday, May 27. The group forcefully took the victim’s bag containing valuables and ₱300,000 in cash before escaping on a motorcycle.
Police Tracking and Arrest Operation
The victim initially tried to locate the suspects by tracking his stolen cellphone but eventually sought help from the police. He filed a report at Makati Police Sub-station 6 at 12:50 a.m. on May 28. Law enforcement officers, together with intelligence operatives, tracked the signal from the stolen phone and found the suspects apparently waiting for another potential victim.
When authorities approached, the suspects tried to flee, prompting a brief chase that ended with Celso’s capture. Officers recovered the stolen cellphone and a fragmentation grenade from the suspect, raising concerns about the extent of his criminal activities.
Charges and Ongoing Manhunt
Following the arrest, Celso faces several charges including robbery under Article 293 of the Revised Penal Code. Additionally, he is charged with violating RA 11235 for using a motorcycle in committing a crime and RA 9516 for illegal possession of explosives. He remains in police custody while authorities continue their investigation.
Meanwhile, a manhunt is underway to apprehend the remaining suspects. Police officials emphasize their commitment to protecting the community through prompt action, intelligence gathering, and collaboration with local residents.
A senior police officer commented, “This operation exemplifies the dedication of the Makati City Police Station to uphold law and order through swift action, enhanced intelligence, and effective community engagement. It also reflects the broader commitment of the National Capital Region Police Office under Maj. Gen. Aberin in delivering decisive, strategic, and community-centered law enforcement, as envisioned by the country’s top leadership. This is not just a police victory – it is a victory for the community. As long as there are criminals threatening public safety, we will not stop. We serve with heart, commitment, and accountability.”
