Suspect Arrested in Motorcycle Robbery Attempt in Makati
A man riding a motorcycle was arrested after he and his accomplice tried to rob a broadcaster in Barangay San Isidro, Makati City. The incident happened Thursday evening, May 22. The police identified the suspect as Justin, 23, from Signal Village, Taguig City.
According to reports, the victim, a 44-year-old broadcaster, was walking along Finlandia Street when two men on a motorcycle approached him. Justin, who was the back rider, got off the bike and held the victim at gunpoint, demanding his iPhone 11.
Police Intervene and Suspect Is Caught
Officers from Sub-Station 3, who were on routine patrol nearby, noticed the robbery in progress and immediately acted. As the suspects tried to flee, Brian, the motorcycle driver, lost control, causing Justin to fall off the bike. This led to Justin’s arrest on the spot.
Authorities recovered a .38-caliber revolver loaded with live ammunition, the stolen iPhone, and several motorcycle plate numbers from Justin. Meanwhile, Brian managed to escape, prompting a manhunt.
Charges and Ongoing Investigation
Justin now faces charges for robbery under Article 293 of the Revised Penal Code, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition under R.A. 10591, and violations of the Omnibus Election Code.
Local law enforcement said, “The confiscated firearm will be submitted to the SPD Forensic Group for ballistic examination, and the recovered motorcycle plates will undergo verification with the Land Transportation Office (LTO). A background check is also being conducted with the Firearms and Explosives Office to determine legal ownership of the seized weapon.”
Authorities emphasized that this arrest highlights the effectiveness of the Makati City Police’s ongoing anti-criminality efforts. They added, “These initiatives are part of sustained operations to ensure the safety and security of all residents. The pursuit of the second suspect continues, with CCTV backtracking and forward-tracking being employed to assist in his apprehension.”
