Police Arrest Man with Improvised Firearm in Makati
Makati City authorities recently apprehended a man carrying an improvised firearm along with multiple bladed weapons and burglary tools. This arrest highlights the ongoing efforts of local police to combat crime in the community.
The arrest took place on May 23 during a routine patrol when officers received a tip from a vigilant citizen about a person carrying a suspected improvised gun near the corner of Emelia Street and Bautista Street in Barangay Palanan. Prompted by this report, police quickly intercepted and detained the individual.
Items Recovered and Charges Filed
Upon inspection, the officers recovered a pen gun loaded with live ammunition. Additionally, they found a red eco bag containing a knife, a hacksaw blade, and an improvised ice axe—tools often linked to break-ins and burglary activities. These confiscated items raised concerns about the suspect’s potential involvement in criminal acts.
The individual was subsequently charged with violating Republic Act No. 10591, also known as the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, in connection with Batas Pambansa Blg. 881, the Omnibus Election Code. This case underscores the seriousness with which authorities are treating illegal possession of weapons.
Community Vigilance and Police Response
According to sources familiar with the matter, police leadership praised the officers for their swift action and dedication. The Southern Police District director emphasized that this accomplishment resulted from continuous police presence and strong community cooperation.
“This accomplishment is a direct result of consistent police presence on the ground and strong community engagement. The vigilance and presence of mind demonstrated by our personnel prevented what could have escalated into a more serious incident. I commend Makati CPS for their operational readiness and their commitment to keeping our communities safe,” a senior official remarked.
The arrest serves as a reminder of the importance of active police visibility and timely reporting by residents. Authorities continue to urge the public to stay alert and report any suspicious activities or individuals immediately to the nearest police station or through official hotlines.
