Malacañang Calls for Respect on Supreme Court Decision
MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang on Friday urged the public to respect the Supreme Court and place their trust in our institutions following the court’s ruling that declared the impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte unconstitutional.
Palace Press Officer Claire Castro told reporters, “We have yet to review the full text of the Supreme Court’s decision. We call on everyone to respect the Supreme Court and place their trust in our institutions.”
Impeachment Complaint Barred by One-Year Rule
She emphasized that the impeachment process is a matter for the legislative and judicial branches. “We recognize their independence in carrying out their constitutional mandates,” Castro added.
The Supreme Court ruled that the complaint against the Vice President is barred by the one-year rule, which means the Senate did not gain jurisdiction over the case, according to Supreme Court spokesperson Camille Ting.
However, Ting clarified that this ruling does not clear Vice President Sara Duterte of any wrongdoing. She also noted that another impeachment complaint may be filed against her starting February 6, 2026.
