False Report of Malaysian Aircraft Emergency Landing in Roxas
PUERTO PRINCESA CITY — A report about a Malaysian aircraft emergency landing in Sitio Candelaria, Barangay Tagumpay, Roxas town, on the morning of August 13, 2025, was confirmed as a hoax by local officials. The false claim alarmed residents and prompted a swift government response.
The misinformation, reportedly made by a resident to a barangay official, stated that the aircraft carrying eight people had crashed around 7:30 a.m. This immediately caused concern among the community and government agencies, triggering preparations for search and rescue operations.
Local Officials Respond to the Emergency Landing Hoax
Roxas Mayor Pedy Sabando personally visited the site alongside personnel from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) and Roxas Municipal Police Station. Upon arrival, officials found no evidence of any crash or emergency landing. Sabando stated that the report was fabricated by the resident who later went missing.
“He made fools of our troops and other government workers. We will be filing necessary charges against him because what he did is not a good joke. Government agencies were alarmed, and resources were wasted,” Sabando emphasized, urging accountability for the false alarm.
Resident’s Motive Behind the False Emergency Landing Report
Barangay Chair Merlinda Herrera shared that the resident admitted fabricating the story to draw attention to the poor condition of the local road. Herrera recalled, “He went to my home at around 6:30 a.m. to report the alleged emergency landing of a Malaysian aircraft with eight people aboard.”
The resident also claimed the pilot spoke Tagalog and requested assistance, prompting Herrera to alert MDRRMO and Mayor Sabando. However, this narrative was later disproven by thorough investigations.
Authorities Confirm No Aircraft Incident in Palawan
The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) issued a formal statement denying any emergency landing or crash involving a Malaysian aircraft in Palawan or nearby areas. Officials reported that all flights were accounted for, with no distress calls or incidents recorded.
“The CAAP’s Philippine Aeronautical Rescue Coordination Center (PARCC), in coordination with air traffic control units, airline operators, and local authorities, has conducted thorough verification and confirms that no aircraft is missing or involved in any mishap,” the statement read.
Call for Responsible Information Sharing
CAAP officials urged the public to seek information from reliable sources and avoid spreading unverified reports that could cause unnecessary panic. This incident highlights the importance of responsible communication, especially regarding aviation safety.
