Male Student Shoots Female Schoolmate in Nueva Ecija Incident
A male student shot a female schoolmate in the neck at a school in Nueva Ecija on Thursday, local authorities reported. The shocking event occurred around 10:45 a.m. in Barangay Rizal, Santa Rosa, according to police sources.
The suspect, known only by the alias Leo and residing in Barangay Santo Rosario, reportedly entered the victim’s classroom without any clear provocation. Witnesses said he suddenly pulled out a .22 caliber firearm from his waist and fired a shot that struck the female student, identified as Lea.
Immediately after shooting the victim, the suspect turned the gun on himself. Both individuals were rushed to the nearest hospital for emergency medical treatment. However, their current conditions remain undisclosed by officials.
Ongoing Investigation and School Response
Authorities have not revealed the name of the school where the incident took place. Police continue to investigate the motive behind the shooting and are also working to determine how the suspect obtained the firearm.
“We are working hand-in-hand with the school and the parents of involved students to get to the bottom of this and to prevent similar incidents in the future,” said PRO 3 Director Brig. Gen. Ponce Rogelio Peñones in an official statement.
Local leaders noted the importance of cooperation between authorities and the community to ensure the safety and well-being of students moving forward.
