Man Arrested in Laguna Hotel for Threatening to Leak Sex Videos

A 21-year-old man was arrested in Laguna after allegedly threatening to release intimate videos involving himself and his lover. Officials reported that the incident unfolded in San Pablo City, where the suspect was apprehended at a hotel he and the victim frequently visited.

Police Entrap Suspect Following Victim’s Complaint

The Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG) confirmed the arrest during a briefing, explaining that the operation was triggered by a complaint from the victim. Early Monday morning, she received a threatening message from the suspect stating, “Look very carefully, Chay, at how these people will see the sex videos you do.”

Local authorities identified the suspect as Cortez, a Calamba City resident, while the victim, known as Chay, is a 38-year-old woman from San Pablo City, married to an Indonesian national. Officials said the threat began earlier this August, escalating tensions between the two.

Background: Past Relationship and Abuse

Sources revealed that the suspect and victim first met in a town within the Bicol Region. Their relationship rekindled in Manila, leading to an intimate affair. However, the man’s behavior reportedly turned abusive over time.

“She had an affair with the suspect. They saw each other again in Manila. That’s why they had an exchange of messages and an intimate relationship,” a spokesperson explained.

Further reports indicated that despite the victim’s refusal, the suspect continued to coerce her into sexual acts, causing her significant anxiety and emotional distress. “The man became abusive. It got to a point in which, even though the woman no longer wanted it, he was still forcing her to have sex with him. This caused anxiety and stress for the victim,” the official added.

Charges Filed and Legal Actions

Following the arrest, the suspect was placed under the custody of the Calabarzon Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit. He now faces charges of grave coercion linked to the Cybercrime Prevention Act (Republic Act 10175).

Authorities also indicated plans to file additional cases under the Violence Against Women Act, reflecting the severity of the abuse involved. “The investigator also sees that there was violence against women here. That’s why we’ll add another case against the suspect,” officials noted.

Public Advisory and Support

Community leaders urged the public, especially women, to recognize their worth and to resist any form of abuse. “To our fellow citizens, especially the women, we must know our worth. Let us not allow ourselves to be abused by other people,” a spokesperson emphasized.
