Man Caught With Drugs, Gun After Jail Release
Just weeks after his release from prison, a 34-year-old man found himself behind bars again. Authorities apprehended him during a drug bust in Barangay San Juan, Taytay, Rizal, on Wednesday, June 4. Police seized P700,000 worth of shabu and a firearm from the suspect.
Rizal Police Provincial Office (PPO) director Col. Felipe Maraggun shared that the man had recently been freed from the Bilibid Maximum Security Prison on May 10. He was originally incarcerated in 2018 for illegal drug offenses and unlawful firearm possession.
A police informant tipped off authorities that the suspect resumed his illicit activities following his release. This prompted law enforcement to conduct a two-week surveillance operation, tracking the suspect closely.
High-Value Individual Yields Illegal Items
During the operation, the suspect, identified by authorities as a high-value individual, surrendered 100 grams of shabu valued at P700,000, along with a pistol loaded with live bullets. When confronted, the man denied ownership of the seized items.
“Hindi po sa akin ‘yun. Gumagamit po ako dati. Hindi po nagbebenta,” he claimed. “The seized drugs are not mine. Yes, I was using illegal drugs before, but I’m not a drug dealer.”
Charges Filed Under Multiple Laws
The repeat offender now faces charges for violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, and the Omnibus Election Code. The last charge stems from the ongoing gun ban, which remains in effect until June 11.
Authorities continue to intensify their crackdown on illegal drugs and firearms, aiming to curb crime in the region. This case highlights the challenges of preventing recidivism among former inmates.
