Man Nabbed for Stealing Items Worth P543,000 in Marikina
A 25-year-old man was caught after allegedly stealing smartphones and broadcast equipment valued at P543,000 from a media vehicle in Marikina City, local authorities reported. The Eastern Police District (EPD) confirmed the arrest, highlighting their swift action following the incident.
The man, known as “Totoy,” was arrested on a Wednesday morning in Barangay Parang. A witness informed barangay officials after seeing Totoy and two children carrying the stolen items away from the vehicle. This tip led to the suspect’s immediate apprehension.
Early Morning Theft Discovered by Media Worker
The victim, a technical specialist and cameraman, parked his vehicle in front of his home in Barangay Parang on Tuesday night. The following morning, around 5:30 a.m., he noticed the right rear passenger window was shattered. Upon inspection, he found several valuable items—including smartphones and broadcasting equipment—missing.
The EPD has yet to disclose the victim’s identity or the media company involved. However, police officials confirmed that the suspect has a history of multiple offenses, including theft, malicious mischief, and violations related to illegal weapons, gambling, and drugs.
Children Involved and Legal Proceedings
The two children seen with Totoy were handed over to the Marikina social welfare and development office. Meanwhile, Totoy remains in police custody, awaiting inquest proceedings with the city prosecutor. Authorities have not yet specified the charges he will face related to this incident.
This case underscores ongoing efforts by local law enforcement to address theft and protect media personnel’s equipment. Residents are reminded to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to barangay officials promptly.
