Suspects in TNVS Driver Killing Surrender to Manila Police
MANILA — Three suspects in the killing of Transportation Network Vehicle Service (TNVS) driver Raymond Cabrera have surrendered to Manila authorities. The Manila City government swiftly acted after the suspects voluntarily turned themselves in, hoping to face justice.
Manila Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso, in a live broadcast Thursday evening, introduced the men to the public. He named the suspects as John Kevin de Ocampo, 33; Justine Dalafu, 30; and Jean Armin de Ocampo, 24. All three are from Tondo.
Mayor Domagoso expressed relief over the development. “I am happy that the case is… resolved. We sympathize with the victim’s family, but in our own little way we are just a bridge to bring justice to the victim’s family. We will let the NBI conduct the next step,” he said in a mix of English and Filipino.
Voluntary Surrender and Family Support
According to local leaders, the three men sought guidance on how to surrender to law enforcement. They reached out to authorities and, with assistance from the Northern Police District and Manila Police District, came forward earlier that day. Mayor Domagoso also noted that the suspects’ families accompanied them and he personally spoke with them.
During the media interview, the suspects remained mostly silent when asked about the motive behind the incident. However, one claimed it was an accident and promised to provide a full explanation before the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
When questioned if they were under the influence of drugs at the time, the suspects denied any such involvement.
Case Background and Next Steps
Reports indicate that on May 18, Cabrera picked up the suspects in Parañaque. However, the vehicle never reached its intended destination in Cavite. The incident sparked concern among the TNVS community and local authorities, prompting immediate investigation.
The Manila City government has pledged full cooperation with the NBI as they take over case proceedings. Mayor Domagoso reiterated the city’s commitment to justice and support for the victim’s family throughout the process.
