Manila Faces Water Service Interruption Due to Pipeline Repair
Several parts of Manila are currently experiencing a water service interruption as Maynilad undertakes urgent repairs on a major pipeline. The water service interruption affects over 350,000 customers in Manila and nearby areas, lasting until Sunday, June 8.
The disruption stems from damage to a key 2.2-meter diameter pipeline along Nicolas Zamora Street in Tondo. A third-party contractor accidentally struck the pipeline while working on the New Pritil Market construction. This water service interruption has forced Maynilad to respond quickly to prevent further complications.
Affected Areas and Impact
Residents in Tondo, Sampaloc, Sta. Cruz, and parts of Ermita and Malate are among those affected. In addition, southern Metro Manila and certain zones in Cavite also face interruptions. Some locations may experience water cuts lasting up to 20 hours daily as repair crews work around the clock.
Efforts to Address the Water Service Interruption
Maynilad has deployed water tankers to strategic points and is coordinating with local barangay officials. This ensures that essential institutions such as hospitals and schools, as well as densely populated communities, receive water during the outage.
Residents are urged to conserve water and stay updated through official announcements. Local leaders noted the urgency of the repair to restore normal service as soon as possible.
