Manila Police Arrest Three Suspects Over Viral Theft
Three men were arrested in Manila after a viral video showed them allegedly stealing a spare tire from a closed container van. The Manila Police District (MPD) confirmed the arrests, which happened last Monday along Capulong Street in Tondo.
The Manila police identified the suspects as Eimer Cantuba, known as Chock-chock; Ar Jay Alvarez, called Zoren; and Mark Kevin Chavez, or Kevin. Authorities said Cantuba and Alvarez are linked to the Sputrik gang, while Chavez is tied to the Commando gang.
Armed Confrontation and Weapons Seized
During the operation, Cantuba was caught holding a caliber .38 pistol alongside Alvarez. The MPD reported that they were shouting loudly and challenging anyone to a duel, disturbing the peace in the area. Police confiscated the .38 caliber pistol and a special cartridge loaded with four live rounds from Cantuba.
In addition, officers recovered an eight-inch dagger allegedly carried by Chavez. All three men were immediately taken to the MPD Custodial Facility for detention.
Pending Charges and Legal Proceedings
The suspects now face complaints before the city prosecutor for violating Section 844 of the Revised Ordinances of Manila, which deals with disturbances of peace. Furthermore, Cantuba and Alvarez await charges for breaching Republic Act 10591, the Firearms and Ammunition Law.
Chavez is also set to face complaints for violating Section 864-C of the same ordinance, which prohibits carrying concealed weapons. The Manila Police District is continuing its investigation as the legal process unfolds.
